The Person Behind Neuro-osity
Iβm Nancy Disbrow, the person behind Neuro-osity. As a former HR Executive, dyslexic, and a person with ADHD, I have found ways to be successful in the workplace and use my βdifferent brainβ as a gift. That sounds positive, right? Well, for the first 30 years of my life, it didnβt feel that great!
Growing up, I struggled through school working harder than most only to get βCβsβ. The corporate world after college wasnβt much different, working hard to compensate for my deficiencies in spelling, math, my lack of focus with details was exhausting as well. Luckily, my natural sales and people skills landed me a few really great jobs where I learned a ton about people, leadership and HR over the years.
It wasnβt until my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 8 that I started to consider the real possibility that I might be dyslexic. I had joked about it over the years but I really thought I just wasnβt as smart as everyone else. When we connected all of the dots with our family history, it wasnβt just a light bulb that went off, it was a like Clark Grizwalds house in National Lampoonβs Christmas Vacation movie! It was a life changing time and led to creating a solution to help others in my situation.
Over the years, I have learned to tap into my superpowers, focus on my strengths and outsource my deficits whenever possible. Through all the ups and downs, successes and failures, smiles and tears, I have successfully navigated the corporate world and want to help others do the same.
My passion is to simply help individuals find and celebrate their gifts and create more inclusive workplaces which celebrate individual differences as their superpowers instead of deficits.
